BARN AT BEAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS Award-winning landscape and travel photographer David Taylor will be running a unique series of photography workshops this summer, in association with The Barn at Beal, near Lindisfarne.
The Barn, which opened its doors in March this year, is the vision of Northumbrian farmer Rod Smith who, in partnership with his father, farms at Beal Farm. It offers a free visitor centre, illustrating the role that agriculture plays in shaping our landscape and economy, combined with a luxurious restaurant and coffee shop, serving the very best in local produce.
David explained: “I thought it would be great to run a series of photography workshops based out of The Barn. It could not be better-placed for access to Lindisfarne and the Northumberland coast, and is in a breath-taking setting. Workshop participants will be able to sample The Barn’s delicious food and comfortable surroundings, as well as enjoying a day’s photography tuition on Lindisfarne, one of the most iconic locations in the country.” The workshops will include basic creative camera techniques, an introduction to composition, and advice on how to explore a location in order to maximise its photographic potential. A packed lunch and afternoon tea will be provided by The Barn. In addition, each workshop will benefit from exclusive access to The Barn’s conference facilities, including a digital projector, enabling participants to share and review their work at the end of the day. The workshops will be friendly and informal, with an emphasis on each participant gaining in confidence with their photography, on both a technical and an artistic level. Digital and film users will be equally welcome, and workshop groups will be small, allowing plenty of time for individual attention. Rod Smith said: “I am very keen to promote local businesses and more than happy to form partnerships for the long term. David’s idea for photography workshops which use The Barn as their base was one I was very keen to encourage and I hope that people will warm to this exciting opportunity. And I may be biased, but I still find this part of the country beautiful. It really does have to be seen - and photographed! - to be believed.“ Anyone who is interested in attending one of David’s workshops is welcome to telephone him on (01434) 607637, or contact him through his website, www.davidtaylorphotography.co.uk, where they will also be able to view a fascinating collection of David’s own photography and learn more about his work.
