David Taylor, North East Regional Winner of the 'Postcard from the Park' Competition

David Taylor - landscape and travel photographer, based in Hexham.

hexham_sele.jpgDavid's work has taken him all over the world, from the sun-kissed beaches and aqua seas of Zanzibar to the bright chill of the Arctic Circle in the depths of winter.

But his first love remains the wild countryside and rugged coastline of his home county of Northumberland, which he has photographed extensively.  His work from this region has appeared in numerous national magazines and has been used widely in publicity material by local councils and tourism offices.

David was recently judged North East Regional Winner of the 'Postcards from the Park' competition, for his stunning image of sunrise in Hexham Sele. The competition was launched by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund in partnership with parks charity GreenSpace.

The panel of judges was led by celebrated photographer Mike McCartney, who said of David's work: "I have been so impressed by the standard of entries, and David's evocative image captures the very essence of why so many people love their local park".

David's image featured in a prize-winners' exhibition at London's Mile End Arts Pavilion, launched at a reception by actress Joanna Lumley. All the winning photographs are to be turned into postcards and distributed in Lottery-funded venues across the UK.

The winning image is available as a print and a greetings card from David's Aurora online shop.

David has recently completed his first book, a sumptuous photographic record of the St Cuthbert's Way walking trail. He is currently working on his second major commission for the Northumberland National Park Authority and has an ambitious programme of exhibitions planned for Northumberland and the Scottish Borders in 2008.
