Elmnet to sponsor the Aurora Project Website

The new Aurora website has been the result of the co-operation of three main parties. The first is Brian Reid, the Project Manager. The second is John Picton, Aurora member and proprietor of web design company Elmnet who are sponsoring the hosting. Finally, the third party who has made the creation of the site possible are the members. We asked John how it all came together and what's happening next.

"The site is a real combination of efforts. On the one hand it's got bigger than we thought it would with its advanced administration features. Whereas previously most Aurora administration was carried out on paper we decided that as each member was having a presense on the site we may as well build an on line database so that we always have up to date information about our members. If Brian Reid wishes to contact all the members about something he can now do so via a single email. The members keep their details up to date so there is less chance of information being sent to a dormant email account."

The whole point of the new site is that it is self sustainable. The idea is to look at the long term future and remove Aurora from the equation. If Aurora and its funding vanish then what happens next? John filled us in on the details:

"The whole point of the site is that regardless of what happens to Aurora the site will continue to operate. Members update their own pages, and when the online store is operational they will all update their own shop too. They will sell items through their own self managed payment bureau. The only costs of the site that need to be covered are the update of features and news and the cost of hosting. Advertising on the homepage will cover most of this wheras I am sponsoring the hosting of the site - just my way of putting something back to the project. This means that the new site doesn't rely on any organisation or funding in order to guarantee it's survival."

So, the online shop will be coming soon but that will probably warrant a news article all of its own. In the meantime why not have a good look around and see if you can find something that you like.
