Catherine Stott

Catherine Stott is a Northern painter and printmaker working in a range of media. Her recent work focuses on other art forms - music , poetry and literature- and explores them through colour and mark-making

Her music paintings draw inspiration from local composers, from the tone colour and rhythm of many musical forms and the movement of musicians and dancers. The vibrant effects are achieved with watercolour, acrylic, paper collage, and wax resist painting on various supports, and painterly printmaking. Work based on poetry and literature, especially Shakespeare, shows a more concrete, figurative bias.

Catherine has mounted joint events with local orchestras and musicians, and run joint workshops with a poet and storyteller/musician. She was artist in residence at Hexham Abbey in 2005 and at the Morpeth Folk Gathering 2007 and 2008.

Other interests include impressionist works based on gardens in Northern England and elsewhere, and mixed media paintings and unique prints inspired by landscapes locally and in the Scottish Borders and Highlands. Limited edition archival prints are available of selected works.

Catherine is available to run Art Workshops for Art Clubs and other groups.
