Stewart & Co. At Meldon Park is located about 6 miles outside of Morpeth, near Hartburn and we are looking to increase the amount of local crafts we sell and local producers we work with.

The cafe and shop is set within a Victorian walled garden where plants and vegetables are also grown for sale in our greenhouse and would therefore complement your products very well. Many of our customers visit Stewart & Co. At Meldon Park for this reason and therefore fit with the sort of clientele you are targeting.

I hope this is of interest to you. Please take a look at our website for more information about Meldon Park: www.stewartandcofinefood.co.uk

Practical one-day workshops, connecting you with Northumberland’s tourism businesses

Northumberland Tourism’s ‘Made in Northumberland’ project would like to invite you to take part in a series of creative workshops, on the 17th, 18th and 19th November, at three of our most iconic attractions – Cragside, Hexham Abbey and Bamburgh Castle. These workshops are designed to connect you directly to the county’s many tourism accommodation providers and visitor attractions.

Holiday habits are changing. Visitors book much later, have less time to plan ahead and particularly want value for money. That’s why many accommodation providers are now looking to enhance their guests’ enjoyment by offering a memorable value-added dimension to their holidays or short breaks. ‘Special offers’ generate extra income, whilst adding interest to the visitor’s holiday experience. As a result, visitors have more to look forward to, plus a compelling reason to return – the chance to try something new, fun and exciting during their stay.

Around 1000 tourism businesses are being invited to these events, encouraging them to come and meet the best of Northumberland’s creative talent. The primary aim of the day is to market your own tuition, courses or workshops to these businesses and encourage the development of ‘quality breaks’ for visitors to Northumberland. By sampling what’s available, providers will be persuaded to develop an attractive ‘visitor offer’ and help promote this county internationally for its artistic prowess. But it is also an opportunity to showcase your skill and network with many useful new contacts, including those responsible for gift shops and galleries.

As an exhibitor, you will be provided with space and a trestle table. Bring along samples of your work and, ideally, enough equipment/materials to let delegates ‘have a go’ and discover the thrill of creating their own artwork - if that’s not practical, maybe a pictorial exhibition could demonstrate your portfolio.

Supported by Northumberland County Council, these events are FREE to artists and include light refreshments. Set up for each event is at 8.30 – 9.30 am, for a 10.00 am start; ending at 3.00 pm. Power will be supplied, but please bring extension cables if you need them. You might also want to bring a dust sheet if your activity could create a lot of mess! Attend on all three days, or just those that suit. Space is limited so please confirm your place as soon as possible by emailing helen.spark@northumberlandtourism.co.uk or call 01670 794520.

Yours sincerely

An Invitation

to get involved and share your passion.

The Learning Revolution Festival celebrates all kinds of informal adult learning and the difference that learning makes to individuals, communities & organisations.

Throughout October, hundreds of events across the country will highlight the wide variety of learning that’s taking place.

The month will give people who are already taking part in informal learning a chance to celebrate what they enjoy and others the opportunity to try something new.

In the North East we are celebrating those Heritage Crafts that have shaped our communities & inviting all-comers to give it a go.

Workshops will be popping up all over the place, Car Boot Sales, Farmers Markets, we will even be taking over Empty Shops and turning them into temporary workspaces. Dotted around the region we are holding mini crafts festivals with entertainment and refreshments (quite possibly served on crocheted doilies!)

So… come and help keep our living heritage alive - come and be a part of it!

We would ABSOLUTELY LOVE you to share your craft, skills and knowledge and would love to talk to you about how you can be involved. To find your nearest Learning Revolution Festival event or find out more please send us an email to

info@pppcic.org.uk or phone for a chat on 0191 273 3845

If you have any events or group meetings that are happening in October it would be great to hear about these and help spread the word for you.

A New Contemporary Cultural Centre for Carlisle and Cumbria

The Cecil Street Project is an exciting new development opening this summer in Carlisle city centre, in the historic area surrounding Portland Square. The centre will feature a retail base for the arts and crafts, with 11 units containing local creative businesses, artists and designer/makers, creating unique products and services. This is not the primary function of The Project though, with the development of an extensive events and community outreach scheme in place, set to reach across North and West Cumbria, The Cecil Street Project hopes to make a significant impact to the local community and economy.

“The Project will allow the wealth of creative talent in Carlisle an outlet for their work, and provide local people and visitors to the city to get a true taste of what Carlisle has to offer culturally”, says Jennifer Brooks, the project’s founder and director, “It is of primary importance to the company that we are able to give back to the local region, and we hope that events and community outreach schemes will enable us to entertain, educate and support North and West Cumbria.”

Based in the ex- Methodist church on Cecil Street, The Project occupies a building as unique as the products it will soon sell. Cecil Hall began life in the 1800’s, and was given a new lease of life in the 1980’s when it was converted into an antiques centre. The interior appears to be exterior, with the construction on 11 shop units in the style of a Victorian street scene. Literally bringing Carlisle to life, the interior is constructed from materials salvaged from Globe Lane and the surrounding area, during the construction of The Lanes Shopping Centre in 1984.

Currently undergoing renovation, the building should be permanently open for public access by July 1st.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the project is invited to contact Jennifer Brooks 07525360058 jenniferbrooksart@hotmail.co.uk for more information or join the Facebook Group –The Cecil Street Project.

I have a couple of really nice large rooms which can be available to rent to creative people. I am happy to rent them out on a week to week basis or longer whatever suits people.

They are here at the Coach House- I have a very large house, and 2 acres of woodland with a stream and waterfalls so ideal head space for artistic people, there is also plenty of space for cars and parking.

I’m not sure of the going rate for rent for rooms at the moment so I can be flexible-but I would want £45.00 a week.

The other option is that if people are looking for a lovely venue to run workshops I have capacity for that- the sitting room where I meet my clients holds 10 comfortably and I have a large conservatory studio where tables and chairs can be used as well.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further.
